our mission

Dallas County has a thriving economy. But there’s one measure that tells a different story.

Two out of every three young adults in Dallas County don’t earn a living wage. For students experiencing economic disadvantage and for communities of color, the numbers are even worse. As a result, out of over 3,100 counties in the U.S., we rank seventh in the number of young adults living in poverty and we rank sixth in the number of children living in poverty. We simply cannot continue to leave the majority of our children behind.

How did we get here? Unequal access to quality educational opportunities have led to disparities in who participates in our regional prosperity and have substantially hindered our overall economy, a cycle that has been repeating and compounding for decades.

Our True North Goal is that by 2040 at least half of all 25-34 year old residents of Dallas County, irrespective of race, will earn a living wage. But we can’t do it alone.

How we get there

Commit is proud to help unite, support and align school systems, higher education institutions, policymakers, businesses, community members and foundations. Together, we are creating systemic changes in our educational system at every level of a student’s journey, from their first steps to their first jobs.

Backed by robust data, student-first policies and systems, and relentless optimism, we believe Dallas County can become a place of economic opportunity for everyone. And from there, this impact can be scaled to reach every student in Texas.

What we do here matters.
