My Promise Path: Brooklyn Fairley

My Promise Path is a series where graduates reflect on their experience with the Dallas County Promise, which is a coalition of school districts, colleges, universities, employers, and communities that have joined forces to help more Dallas County students complete college and begin self-sustaining careers. This year the Dallas County Promise marks its fifth year in operation.

I was born and raised in Garland ISD and graduated in 2019. I come from a divorced household and my college savings understandably had to go to housing and food. I started working at 15 and figured I’d be working fast food or retail the rest of my life. But then I heard about the Dallas County Promise my sophomore year and it helped me see a different future for myself. Thanks to the Promise, I got my associate degree from Richland Community College in 2020 and my bachelor’s degree in 2022 from Midwestern State University Texas, which is a four-year partner of Promise. I will graduate in two weeks with a major in psychology and criminal justice.

I currently work for CityYear as a student success coach at the premiere middle school, Comstock Middle School. I feel blessed to share my Promise story with the students and help them see a future they maybe didn’t even know was possible.

I am also working toward getting my master’s degree next year and plan to become a forensic psychologist. The Dallas County Promise gave me an outlet to a future I didn’t know was possible.
