North Texas Voters Find Bipartisan Agreement on Key Education Issues & Solutions

Today, the Commit Partnership released poll results that show both conservative and progressive North Texas voters overwhelmingly support data-driven strategies in order to improve outcomes for students, objectively measure progress, and keep parents informed.

In a poll conducted in December 2022 by Ragnar Research Partners, 800 voters from Collin, Denton, Tarrant, and Dallas counties showed strong support for strategic investments in community colleges, evidence-backed tutoring ratios, Texas’ current A-F accountability system, and testing as a transparency measure for parents. The poll results affirm the priorities laid out in Commit’s 2023 Legislative Agenda that strive to support students from early learning to earning a family-sustaining wage.

“These poll results clearly show that North Texas voters stand behind research-driven strategies that support our students,” said Todd Williams, CEO of the Commit Partnership. “Bolstered by these results, we will continue to advocate for community college finance reform, evidence-backed tutoring ratios, and keeping Texas’ testing and accountability systems in place over the next legislative session. This poll only reinforces that this session must be the Workforce Session. ”

The poll revealed that of surveyed North Texas voters:

• 84% agree that community colleges are key to the development of the Texas workforce.
• 83% support increasing Texas’ investment in community colleges based on the number of students meeting key academic and workforce outcomes.
• 76% support evidence-backed tutoring ratios for students who are academically behind.
• 74% support Texas’ current system of assigning an A-F letter grade for schools.
• 82% support testing that gives parents a transparent measure of a student’s academic progress.
