Monitoring Progress

In addition to formative academic snapshots, valid, reliable, annual, and comparable summative assessments in core subjects enable decision makers (parents, school leaders, and policymakers) to identify opportunities and stay informed. Meaningful, fair, and transparent accountability systems define excellence and spur continuous improvement. Texas’ accountability and assessment systems must focus on core academic skills and allow comparable progress monitoring over time.

Texas’ innovations in assessment, including the Through-Year Assessment Pilot, are promising potential solutions to improve educators’ experiences with state tests without sacrificing the validity and reliability of the tool.
